In the last couple of weeks I have had quite a few people asking if I will be doing the Alternative School Photos again this year… and I have decided that I will be, with a few changes. I’m letting you know today and giving you the booking link BEFORE I share it anywhere else – as promised!
A few changes this year…
As you probably know I have always offered these sessions on a ‘low profit’ model as it has always been about giving families the chance to experience my services at a low cost and equally making sure that the shy bairns, the kids who were off on photo day…or just had a terrible picture get the chance to get one nice image from their school year taken in a calmer more relaxed and hopefully fun way than the military regime of school photo day!
But in all honesty this has in the past meant that the sessions often barely ‘break even’!
This coupled with how hard financially I know a lot of families are finding it this year has led me to spend a lot of time looking at my prices and packages from last year, talking to suppliers etc to see what I can do to offer better value to you and stop myself from going broke.
Like most things print prices have risen dramatically in the last year…what hasn’t! Most of the products we have always offered have gone up in price, I have kept the ‘core products’ and added some new alternatives to help keep prices down.
For those of you who prefer to arrange your own printing I have also reduced the cost of buying all the digital images by 37% – however I have removed the option to buy a single digital images (as those are the orders where I really lost money).
You can download a copy of the new price guide at the bottom of this page but I’ll go through exactly what has changed below…
The main changes…
I’ve replaced the desk frames that I usually offer with a simplified single elegant black frame with a metal stand. The images are now ‘full frame’ instead of surrounded with a mount.
They’re still handmade in the UK but with a simple elegant black frame, and no mount we can keep the quality and lower the price.
The packages…
Core print prices have risen and therefore so have the packages (except the framed package which has come down a lot)…but with some negotiation we’ve been able to get a compromise that means they packages actually contain more too.
…and it is worth remembering that unlike a traditional school package your however many 6×4 prints etc don’t all have to be of the same image etc.
Packaging and Posting…
This year I have arranged with the lab a bulk postage discount which means that I will be able to provide free packaging and posting on all orders made by a certain date…and they’ll all be delivered to me at the studio and we can arrange to get them to you in person.
The Booking Fee…
As always you will get your booking fee back as a credit to use for your online order but this year I have raised the booking fee to match the cost of the traditional print package…as this is my ‘break even point’
